Ribbon Pakoda (Ribbon Murukku)
Ribbon pakoda, also known as ribbon murukku, is a popular South Indian snack made with rice flour, gram flour, and spices. It is a crispy, crunchy snack that is often served during festivals and special occasions.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1/4 cup gram flour
- 1/4 cup fried gram dal powder
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- A pinch of hing
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the rice flour, gram flour, fried gram dal powder, sesame seeds, melted butter, red chili powder, salt, and hing. Mix well.
- Add water little by little and knead into a soft dough.
- Fill a murukku press with the dough and press it into hot oil in a deep frying pan.
- Fry the murukku until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot or cold.
Tips:
- For a more flavorful ribbon pakoda, add some grated ginger and garlic to the dough.
- You can also add some chopped herbs, such as cilantro or curry leaves, to the dough.
- If you don't have a murukku press, you can use a ziploc bag with a small hole cut in the corner to pipe the dough into the oil.
- Be careful not to overcrowd the pan when frying the murukku.
- Fry the murukku over medium heat so that they cook evenly.
