Gobi Manchurian Recipe (Cauliflower Manchurian)

Gobi Manchurian is a popular Indo-Chinese appetizer or snack made with batter-coated and pan-fried crispy cauliflower florets tossed in a spicy, umami, savory sauce made with alliums, herbs, spices, soy sauce, and tomato ketchup. It is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, chili powder, ginger garlic paste, salt, and pepper. Add the water and whisk until smooth.
  2. Dip the cauliflower florets in the batter and coat evenly.
  3. Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Fry the cauliflower florets until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the cauliflower florets from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the onion, garlic, ginger, bell peppers, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, chili sauce, sugar, and black pepper.
  6. Heat a tablespoon of oil in the same skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the sauce mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  7. Add the fried cauliflower florets to the sauce and toss to coat.
  8. Garnish with cilantro and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • For a spicier gobi Manchurian, add more red chili powder to the batter or the sauce mixture.
  • If you don't have cornstarch, you can substitute all-purpose flour.
  • You can also add other vegetables to the sauce mixture, such as carrots, mushrooms, or snow peas.
  • Gobi Manchurian can be served with rice, noodles, or as a snack.

Enjoy your delicious Gobi Manchurian!
