Gobi Manchurian Recipe (Cauliflower Manchurian)
Gobi Manchurian is a popular Indo-Chinese appetizer or snack made with batter-coated and pan-fried crispy cauliflower florets tossed in a spicy, umami, savory sauce made with alliums, herbs, spices, soy sauce, and tomato ketchup. It is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup tomato ketchup
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon chili sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, chili powder, ginger garlic paste, salt, and pepper. Add the water and whisk until smooth.
- Dip the cauliflower florets in the batter and coat evenly.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Fry the cauliflower florets until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the cauliflower florets from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, combine the onion, garlic, ginger, bell peppers, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, chili sauce, sugar, and black pepper.
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in the same skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the sauce mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Add the fried cauliflower florets to the sauce and toss to coat.
- Garnish with cilantro and serve immediately.
Tips:
- For a spicier gobi Manchurian, add more red chili powder to the batter or the sauce mixture.
- If you don't have cornstarch, you can substitute all-purpose flour.
- You can also add other vegetables to the sauce mixture, such as carrots, mushrooms, or snow peas.
- Gobi Manchurian can be served with rice, noodles, or as a snack.
