Chana Chaat Recipe (Chickpea Chaat)
Chana chaat is a popular Indian street food made with chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, and a variety of spices. It is a delicious and healthy snack or meal that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup dried chickpeas (or 2 cups cooked chickpeas)
- 1 onion, finely chopped

- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
- 1-2 tablespoons tamarind chutney or lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder (optional)
- 1/4-1/3 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
Instructions:
- If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight in water. Drain and cook the chickpeas according to package directions.
- In a large bowl, combine the chickpeas, onion, tomato, cucumber (if using), coriander leaves, and green chilies (if using).
- Add the tamarind chutney or lemon juice, chaat masala, cumin powder (if using), and salt. Toss to combine.
- Serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as sev, papdi, yogurt, and chutney.
Tips:
- For a more flavorful chana chaat, use homemade tamarind chutney.
- If you don't have tamarind chutney, you can substitute lemon juice or lime juice.
- You can also add other vegetables to your chana chaat, such as potatoes, carrots, or bell peppers.
- Chana chaat can be served as a snack, appetizer, or main course.
